Branco Van den Boomen has completed a permanent move to Angers from Ajax Amsterdam, signing a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club that will keep him at the Stade Raymond Kopa until 2029. The move follows a successful loan spell with Angers last season, where the Dutch midfielder contributed to their survival in the French top flight. According to L’Équipe, the agreement was finalized after Ajax reached a mutual understanding with the player to terminate the final year of his contract.
Van den Boomen initially joined Ajax in 2020, but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter during his three seasons in Amsterdam, scoring five goals and providing two assists in all competitions. His loan to Angers provided a fresh start, and he quickly became an important player for the Scoïstes, registering one assist in 15 league appearances. This contribution proved vital as Angers secured their Ligue 1 status.
Prior to his move to Ajax, Van den Boomen enjoyed a highly productive spell with Toulouse, playing a key role in their promotion back to Ligue 1 in the 2021-2022 season. He was instrumental in their success, scoring 12 goals and providing 22 assists. He continued to shine for Toulouse, being a significant contributor to their Coupe de France triumph in 2023. His performances for Toulouse demonstrated his creative capabilities and goal-scoring threat from midfield.
Angers will be looking to build on their Ligue 1 survival this season under new manager Stéphane Gilli, and Van den Boomen’s permanent signing provides a reliable and experienced option in the center of the pitch. The club hopes his familiarity with the league and his proven ability will be crucial in their continued fight against relegation. His return to Angers offers stability and a creative spark as they navigate another challenging Ligue 1 campaign.
