Veteran Brazilian Nenê, 44, scores on Botafogo-PB debut in Serie C
Former Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco forward Nenê has marked his debut for Brazilian Serie C side Botafogo-PB with a match-winning goal at the age of 44. The veteran attacker converted a penalty in a 1-0 victory over Barra on the opening day of the national third-tier season, a feat that means he has now scored in all three top divisions of Brazilian football.
Nenê returned to his native Brazil in 2015 after a lengthy career in Europe, most notably with PSG between 2010 and 2013. His move to Botafogo-PB, based in João Pessoa, was finalized in January of this year. According to reports from Brazilian media, the transfer was a permanent deal, though no fee was disclosed for the free agent.
The goal against Barra continues a productive start to life at his 19th professional club. Prior to the Serie C campaign beginning, Nenê had already scored three goals in the state-based Campeonato Paraibano, which his team went on to win. His fitness levels remain notable; since joining, he has started twelve of his thirteen appearances, often playing the full ninety minutes.
Nenê's career began at Paulista in 2002, and his European journey included spells in Spain with Espanyol and Alavés, in Italy with Cagliari, and in France with Monaco before his pivotal move to PSG. He was a key figure in the Parisian club's early modern era, helping them to a Coupe de France title. His longevity is now the defining feature of his career, with his playing days extending well into his mid-forties.
For Botafogo-PB, the signing provides immense experience and a proven set-piece threat for their Serie C campaign. For Nenê, it represents an opportunity to continue playing regularly and competitively in his home country. His immediate impact suggests he will be a central figure as the club from Paraíba state aims for stability and progress in the national league structure.
