VfB Stuttgart striker Ermedin Demirović has personally served hundreds of supporters free beer after fulfilling a promise made prior to Bosnia and Herzegovina's successful World Cup qualification playoff. The 28-year-old forward had pledged to buy beer for the entire Stuttgart stadium if his national team qualified for the 2026 tournament, a promise he honoured at the club's 'Wasentag' event this week.
Bosnia defeated Italy in a penalty shootout last month, with Pio Esposito and Bryan Cristante missing their spot-kicks, securing the nation's place at the World Cup. Following the victory, Demirović stated, "A man always keeps his word. It will cost me dearly, but I will do it with pleasure." According to the club's social media channels, the event saw Demirović serve an estimated 800 litres of beer to fans over the course of an hour at the Hofbräu tent during Stuttgart's spring festival.
The striker, who joined Stuttgart from Augsburg in 2023, was filmed pulling pints and interacting with supporters. "That was done with love, I hope you enjoyed it," Demirović was quoted as saying, pint in hand. The gesture underscores the strong connection between the player and the club's fanbase during a season where Stuttgart are competing for a European place in the Bundesliga.
Demirović has been a key figure for Stuttgart this campaign, contributing both goals and assists from his forward position. His commitment to the pledge, despite the significant personal cost, has been widely praised by fans and commentators alike as a demonstration of his character off the pitch. The event was organised as part of a club-led fan festival, amplifying the positive community engagement.
Such public gestures are rare in modern football, where player-fan interactions are often more formalised. Demirović's actions provide a notable moment of camaraderie ahead of Bosnia's first World Cup appearance since 2014. For Stuttgart, the episode represents a positive public relations moment as the club builds towards the season's climax and Demirović prepares for his first World Cup finals.
