Reports linking Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira with a move to Nottingham Forest have been swiftly dismissed, according to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg. Plettenberg stated that the claims of a potential transfer were inaccurate, with all involved parties denying any negotiations.
Recent reports from FussballTransfers had suggested that Forest submitted a bid of €28 million for the Portuguese player, however Sky Sports reports no such offer was made and no discussions took place between the clubs. The focus, according to Plettenberg, remains on Hamburger SV’s attempts to retain Vieira beyond his current loan spell.
Vieira spent the 2023-24 season on loan at the 2. Bundesliga side, proving to be a key player in their promotion push. He contributed significantly with seven goals and five assists from a midfield position, showcasing his creative abilities and goal-scoring threat. His performances led to considerable praise from HSV supporters and prompted speculation about a permanent move.
The 26-year-old initially joined Arsenal from Porto in 2022 for a reported fee of £34.2 million. While he has shown glimpses of his talent for the Gunners, he has struggled to consistently secure a starting position in Mikel Arteta’s squad, making 31 appearances across all competitions but often as a substitute. He has scored three goals for Arsenal in his time at the club.
Vieira’s contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire in June 2025, meaning Arsenal may consider offers this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer. HSV’s continued interest presents a viable option, while Forest’s reported approach appears to have been unfounded. A return to Hamburg would likely see Vieira as a central figure, while a move elsewhere would depend on securing regular playing time.
