Aston Villa are reportedly monitoring Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade, with a potential transfer fee of €65million (£56m) being discussed, according to reports in Spain. The 24-year-old forward has also attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, suggesting a competitive market for his signature.
Woltemade arrived at Newcastle last summer for a reported £85million, but his debut season in England proved inconsistent. He began strongly, scoring four Premier League goals in his first five appearances, but ultimately finished the campaign with 11 goals in all competitions and a prolonged run of 17 Premier League games without finding the net. This dip in form has led to speculation regarding his future at St. James’ Park.
Villa, fresh off a successful season that saw them secure Champions League football and win the Europa League, may view Woltemade as a potential addition to their attacking options. However, financial regulations could prove a hurdle, and the club may need to generate funds through player sales, such as Morgan Rogers, before committing to such a significant outlay.
Despite the reported interest, doubts remain about the feasibility of the deal. Dan Bardell, a broadcaster with close ties to Aston Villa, believes Newcastle would be reluctant to sell Woltemade to a Premier League rival, fearing it would raise questions about their initial investment. He also suggests that Villa’s current transfer budget is likely to be in the region of £35-40million, significantly lower than Newcastle’s asking price. A loan move has also been suggested as a possible compromise, but Bardell remains unconvinced a deal will materialise.
