Vinicius Junior has publicly stated his intention to remain at Real Madrid for the duration of his career, offering a boost to incoming manager Jose Mourinho. The Brazilian winger’s current contract with the club is set to expire in 2027, and negotiations regarding a renewal have been ongoing for several months.
Speaking to CazeTV, Vinicius expressed his deep connection to the club, stating, “I want to stay here my whole life. I have never imagined myself away from Real Madrid.” He emphasized his fulfillment at playing for his dream club and highlighted the significance of being named a team captain at a young age.
Despite his clear desire to stay, Vinicius indicated that discussions with the club are still needed, saying, “We have a lot to talk about.” He clarified that he is not rushing into a new contract, as his current deal extends until 2027, allowing ample time for both parties to reach an agreement. Both Vinicius and the club’s president are reportedly calm and trusting in the process.
Recent months have seen some tension between Vinicius and Real Madrid, partly stemming from speculation linking him with a move to the Saudi Pro League, which club officials believed was encouraged by the player to increase his bargaining power during contract talks. Reports also suggested a strained relationship with former coach Xabi Alonso, culminating in an incident during El Clasico where Vinicius walked off the pitch without acknowledging the manager after being substituted.
This past season, Vinicius recorded 22 goals in 53 appearances, a solid return but trailing behind teammate Kylian Mbappé in goalscoring. However, data analytics firm SciSports rated Vinicius as the second-highest performing winger in La Liga, behind only Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, highlighting his significant impact on the league. The resolution of Vinicius’ contract situation is now a priority for Mourinho as he begins his second spell at the Bernabeu.
