Vitek Set for Summer Exit After Hinting at Man Utd Departure
Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek has strongly indicated he will leave the club this summer, seeking a move where he can be a first-choice player. The 22-year-old, currently on a season-long loan at Championship side Bristol City, has expressed a firm desire to play regular first-team football next season, casting doubt on his future at Old Trafford. His current contract with United is due to expire in the summer of 2025.
In a recent interview with BBC Sport, Vitek was clear about his ambitions. "At this stage in my career, I want to play as many games as possible. I wouldn't benefit from sitting on the bench," the Czech goalkeeper said. He added that while his focus remains on Bristol City for the final eight games of their season, his future will be a key topic of discussion with Manchester United in the summer.
Vitek has been a standout performer for the Robins this season, keeping 10 clean sheets in 36 Championship appearances. His form has been a key factor in Bristol City's season and has attracted praise from interim manager Roy Hodgson. Following a 1-0 win over Sheffield United, Hodgson stated that Vitek possesses all the attributes to play in the Premier League, praising his shot-stopping, command of the area, and distribution.
Manchester United are expected to demand a fee in the region of €11.5 million for the Czech youth international, a figure that could prove a significant hurdle for Bristol City if they wish to make the move permanent this summer. While a permanent switch to Ashton Gate has been mooted, the size of the fee could prove prohibitive, with other clubs likely to be monitoring the situation. Vitek has made it clear that his priority is regular first-team football, a status he is unlikely to achieve at Old Trafford, where he would serve as understudy to the established first-choice goalkeeper.
The potential departure of the 22-year-old would mark the end of a 12-year association with Manchester United, whom he joined as a youth player in 2014. His performances in the Championship have proven his readiness for a higher level, and his comments suggest a permanent move away from Old Trafford is the most likely outcome as he seeks to establish himself as a number one elsewhere. The coming months will be crucial in determining whether Bristol City can meet United's valuation or if another suitor will emerge for the highly-rated young goalkeeper.
