Dusan Vlahovic is poised to depart Juventus after a four-and-a-half-year spell with the club, as reported by Tuttosport. The move comes amid concerns over the forward’s emotional and technical struggles, preventing him from reaching the heights expected following his transfer from Fiorentina in January 2022.
Vlahovic’s arrival in Turin initially provided a significant boost following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, revitalizing the atmosphere at the club’s training ground. However, the substantial investment in the Serbian international – totaling approximately €180 million including transfer fee and wages – has not yielded the desired returns. Juventus paid Fiorentina €70 million for his transfer, plus an additional €11.6 million in solidarity contributions and other fees, with a further €10 million in potential bonuses.
The forward’s contract included escalating wages, starting at €7 million net per season and increasing to €12 million by 2026, contributing to the overall financial burden. The club had hoped to capitalize on his performances through a future sale, but injuries and inconsistent form hampered those plans.
Vlahovic made 168 appearances for Juventus, scoring 68 goals and providing 16 assists. However, the club feels each goal ultimately cost approximately €2.6 million, a figure considered unsustainable. Reports suggest internal tensions also played a role, with Vlahovic reportedly questioning why he should earn less than other teammates.
Currently, Besiktas are the only club publicly linked with a move for Vlahovic, though they are not considered one of Europe’s elite. Juventus director Giovanni Carnevali stated the club are not currently considering Vlahovic, but left the door open for a potential future change. The situation highlights the difficulties in managing expectations and the impact of both on-field performance and off-field dynamics at a club like Juventus.
