West Ham United are preparing to make renewed approaches for Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis this summer, according to sources at TEAMtalk. The Hammers saw multiple bids, including both loan and permanent offers, rejected in January for the 24-year-old England international.
Harwood-Bellis has been a consistent performer for Southampton throughout a challenging season that ultimately saw them miss out on promotion via the Championship play-offs. He has demonstrated composure in possession, aerial ability, and leadership qualities, making him an attractive target for several Premier League clubs.
Everton and Crystal Palace have also been monitoring Harwood-Bellis’s situation, with scouts reportedly impressed by his ball-playing skills and potential for further development. However, West Ham are currently considered the most determined suitors, viewing the defender as a key addition to strengthen their backline. The player himself is understood to be open to a move to the London Stadium.
Southampton are reportedly seeking in excess of £20million for Harwood-Bellis, whose contract with the club runs until 2028. They initially valued him highly, considering him central to their ambitions of securing promotion and stabilising in the Premier League. However, their recent expulsion from the play-off final has made his departure more likely.
Burnley, where Harwood-Bellis previously enjoyed a successful loan spell during his time at Manchester City, also retain an interest. However, their own relegation from the Premier League may hinder their ability to compete financially with West Ham and other top-flight clubs. West Ham’s own Premier League status will also be a factor, with their potential relegation complicating their pursuit of the defender. Harwood-Bellis has expressed a desire to become a regular in the Premier League and earn further international caps with England, having made one senior appearance to date.
