Luton Town manager Jack Wilshere has expressed his interest in signing Arsenal’s Max Dowman on loan this summer. The former Arsenal midfielder, appointed Luton boss in October, revealed his desire to reunite with the teenage talent at Kenilworth Road, according to talkSPORT. Wilshere oversaw a significant improvement in Luton’s form towards the end of the 2026 season, narrowly missing out on a League One play-off spot.
Dowman, a 16-year-old forward or central midfielder, has quickly risen through the ranks at Arsenal. He became the youngest ever Premier League title winner as part of the Gunners’ victorious 2025-26 campaign. Dowman has already made 12 first-team appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this season and is valued between €5.6M and €9.4M.
Wilshere played a crucial role in Dowman’s early development, handing him his debut for Arsenal’s U18 side at just 13 years old. The connection between the two could be a significant factor in any potential loan deal. Wilshere stated he would happily ask Arteta for any player not in his immediate first-team plans, specifically mentioning Dowman and fellow academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri.
Arsenal face a decision regarding Dowman’s future, weighing the benefits of continued development within their first-team squad against the potential of valuable senior experience gained through a loan spell. Bukayo Saka’s successful integration into the Arsenal first team without a loan serves as a precedent, suggesting Dowman may be ready for a more prominent role. However, a temporary move to Luton could provide crucial physical development against experienced League One opposition. The club will likely assess Dowman’s role in pre-season before making a final determination.
