Wolfsburg have completed the signing of forward Fabian Reese from Hertha BSC, the club announced on Tuesday. The 28-year-old joins the Bundesliga side for a fee reported to be between €8 and €9 million, signing a long-term contract that extends through 2030. Reese will wear the number 11 shirt for Wolfsburg.
Reese was a key player for Hertha BSC in the 2. Bundesliga last season, contributing significantly to their attack despite their failure to secure promotion. He finished the campaign with 10 goals and 13 assists, totaling 23 goal contributions and quickly becoming a favourite among the Hertha supporters. Prior to his time at Hertha, Reese had spells at several 2. Bundesliga clubs, including Holstein Kiel and SV Darmstadt 98, steadily building his reputation as a dynamic and effective winger.
Wolfsburg sporting director Primin Schwegler highlighted Reese’s qualities, stating he is “one of the strongest players in the 2. Bundesliga in recent years” and praised his “strong attacking qualities, exceptional level of commitment, leadership and mentality.” Schwegler expressed the club’s excitement about adding a player of Reese’s calibre to their squad.
Reese himself explained that the decision to move to Wolfsburg was not easy but ultimately felt like the right step for his career. He specifically cited the club’s determined pursuit of his signature as a demonstration of their appreciation, as well as the professional environment and values of Wolfsburg and its parent company, Volkswagen. Reese indicated that these factors were decisive in his choice.
This transfer marks Wolfsburg’s third addition of the summer transfer window as they aim to bounce back from relegation. The club has demonstrated a clear intent to strengthen the squad and mount a serious challenge for promotion back to the Bundesliga. The acquisition of Reese adds further attacking firepower to their ranks and signals a proactive approach to rebuilding the team. This signing will likely see Reese competing for a starting spot on the wing, adding depth and competition to Wolfsburg’s attacking options.
