Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to dismiss manager Rob Edwards, according to reports in The Telegraph. Edwards, who arrived at Molineux in November, will depart as the club prepares for life in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League.
Wolves finished bottom of the Premier League table last season and are aiming for an immediate return to the top flight. The departure of Edwards comes despite his involvement in recent player acquisitions, including Kieran Trippier and Raúl Jiménez, according to the same report. His signing of the pair is now being viewed with some concern given his exit.
Edwards previously managed at Middlesbrough, joining the club in mid-season for a reported fee of £4 million. His time with Wolves was relatively short, and the club is now looking to bring in a replacement.
César Peixoto is expected to take over as manager. Peixoto recently led Gil Vicente to a sixth-place finish in the Portuguese league. Notably, Peixoto is represented by Jorge Mendes and Gestifute, a prominent football agency. The appointments of both Trippier and Jiménez were also facilitated by Mendes, raising questions about the agency’s growing influence at the club.
The situation leaves Wolves in a period of transition as they rebuild for a Championship campaign. The club will hope that the arrival of Peixoto can provide stability and a pathway back to the Premier League. The departure of Edwards, particularly given his role in recent signings, introduces an element of uncertainty as the club navigates this crucial period.
