Chelsea had submitted multiple offers for Xhaka, but the player expressed a clear desire to remain at the Stadium of Light, according to Le Bris, who confirmed the matter is “closed” after Sunderland’s pre-season friendly against Liverpool.
Xhaka has been a key figure for Sunderland since joining the club, and Le Bris highlighted his importance as both a captain and a leader, emphasizing his commitment to the club’s future. The 31-year-old’s decision not to reunite with former manager Xabi Alonso adds another layer to the story, demonstrating his loyalty to his current team.
Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly keen on bringing Pedro Neto to Manchester City, having previously worked with the Portuguese winger. The Daily Mail reports that Maresca sees Neto as a potential addition to bolster City’s attacking options, particularly with the futures of Savinho and Omar Marmoush uncertain. Chelsea are aware of the interest from City, as well as Liverpool and clubs in Saudi Arabia, and believe the current market conditions could allow them to secure a substantial fee for the 26-year-old.
