Massimiliano Allegri is beginning to shape his Napoli squad following his appointment as the club’s new manager, with plans to integrate recent acquisitions and assess the existing roster. The club, owned by Aurelio De Laurentiis, aims to remain competitive at the top of Serie A, building upon a foundation Allegri believes is already strong with strategic additions.
Napoli have already exercised their options to permanently sign Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United and Alisson from Sporting, viewing the young forwards as central to their future attacking plans. Both players represent a commitment to dynamism and potential, and are expected to become key figures under Allegri’s leadership. The manager also has his eye on established talent, with Scott McTominay identified as a potential linchpin in midfield.
Several existing players will be given opportunities to prove their worth. Alessandro Buongiorno, despite a fluctuating previous season, is seen as having the physical and mental attributes to return to a high level of performance. Young defender Vergara is also expected to develop under Allegri, who has a reputation for nurturing emerging talent. Veteran winger Politano will have a more limited role due to his age, but can still contribute valuable experience from the bench.
However, uncertainty surrounds several members of the squad. Kevin De Bruyne has requested a meeting with Allegri, casting doubt on his future at the club, despite the manager’s desire to grant him a similar level of freedom afforded to Luka Modric in the past. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s willingness to accept a rotational role is also in question. Olivera is attracting interest from other clubs, while Beukema’s position remains unclear following a drop in playing time under the previous manager.
Romelu Lukaku will depart the club, with his agent actively seeking a new destination. Napoli are unwilling to maintain a high-earning backup striker, and Lukaku’s substantial wages make his exit inevitable. Elmas will return to RB Leipzig, Anguissa is considering offers from Turkish clubs and beyond, Juan Jesus will become a free agent, and Giovane will likely be loaned out to gain more consistent playing time. De Laurentiis has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete for the title, and Allegri has accepted the challenge of building a winning side.
