Arsenal’s attempt to secure winger Savinho on loan has been rebuffed by Manchester City, according to reports in the Brazilian media. The Gunners approached City regarding a temporary deal for the 22-year-old, but the Cityzens are only willing to consider a permanent transfer.
Savinho joined Manchester City in the summer of 2024 for a reported fee of €40 million (£34.5m, $45.7m), but the club, now under incoming manager Enzo Maresca, are prepared to sell the Brazil international. Tottenham Hotspur also expressed interest in the player last summer, and have renewed their pursuit this window, though City blocked a move at that time and convinced Savinho to sign a new contract.
Arsenal’s interest comes as they seek to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season. However, their efforts to bring Savinho to the Emirates Stadium have been complicated by City’s stance. The club’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, led the approach for the player, but were unsuccessful in convincing City to agree to a loan.
Separately, Arsenal have also been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid. The striker has reportedly informed both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain that his preference is a move to Barcelona, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Alvarez’s decision leaves Arsenal still searching for a new striker this summer.
The situation with Savinho leaves Arsenal needing to reassess their wide options. While a permanent deal remains a possibility, City’s valuation could prove to be a stumbling block. Tottenham, who previously showed strong interest, now appear to be in a favourable position to secure the winger’s signature.
