Juventus open talks with Bayern Munich's Min-jae Kim
Juventus have initiated discussions over a potential summer transfer for Bayern Munich defender Min-jae Kim, according to reports in Italy. The Gazzetta dello Sport states that the Serie A club has made contact regarding a move for the South Korean international at the end of the current season. The report indicates that Bayern Munich would demand a fee of at least €30 million for the 27-year-old centre-back.
The move is motivated by Kim's search for more consistent playing time. Since joining Bayern from Napoli for €50 million in the summer of 2023, he has found himself behind Dayot Upamecano and, more recently, Jonathan Tah in the defensive pecking order at the Allianz Arena. Kim has made 31 appearances across all competitions this season, but his status as a regular starter has diminished under manager Thomas Tuchel.
A transfer to Juventus would see Kim reunited with coach Luciano Spalletti, under whom he enjoyed the most successful period of his career. Kim was a pivotal figure in Spalletti's Napoli side that won the Serie A title in the 2022-23 campaign, earning a place in the league's Team of the Season before his high-profile move to Germany. His familiarity with Spalletti's methods and the Italian league is seen as a significant factor in Juventus's interest.
For Juventus, the pursuit aligns with a need to rejuvenate an ageing defensive line. With veterans like Daniele Rugani out of contract and Alex Sandro departing, the club is seeking a long-term, physically dominant presence at the back. Kim, whose current contract with Bayern runs until 2028, fits that profile and would bring proven Serie A experience to Turin.
The reported €30 million valuation represents a significant loss for Bayern on their initial investment, but reflects the player's reduced role and his desire for a fresh start. Should the deal proceed, it would mark a major defensive acquisition for Juventus as they plan for the future under Spalletti, while Bayern would recoup funds to potentially reinvest in their own squad.
