Liverpool have entered the race to sign AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche, attempting to disrupt Paris Saint-Germain’s pursuit of the player, according to Sky Sports. The move comes as the Anfield club seek attacking reinforcements following the departure of Mohamed Salah on a free transfer and concerns over the form of current options.
Liverpool’s need for attacking additions has been amplified by a difficult season for Cody Gakpo, whose future at the club is uncertain. While the arrival of Andoni Iraola as manager may offer opportunities for young Rio Ngumoha, the club still recognise the necessity of bringing in established talent. Iraola himself has acknowledged the need for strengthening in attacking areas.
PSG have already had three bids rejected for the 24-year-old France international, with Monaco reportedly seeking a fee of around €50 million. The French champions have so far been unwilling to meet that valuation, with offers reportedly peaking below €40 million, creating a stalemate despite Akliouche’s desire to join the club. This impasse has prompted Liverpool to register their interest.
Liverpool have launched an official enquiry to assess the possibility of a deal, though details of their offer have not yet been disclosed. The Reds were also previously linked with RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, but he is reportedly favouring a move to PSG. A potential move for Bradley Barcola was also complicated by PSG’s reluctance to meet Leipzig’s asking price.
Akliouche has represented France at senior international level, earning 10 caps. Last season, the right-winger made 43 appearances for Monaco across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists. Notably, like Salah, Akliouche is a left-footed player who prefers to operate on the right wing. Securing Akliouche would provide Iraola with a direct replacement for Salah, offering a similar profile and attacking threat.
