Álvaro Morata completes €15m move from Atlético Madrid to AC Milan
Álvaro Morata has joined AC Milan from Atlético Madrid in a permanent transfer worth €15m, with the striker signing a four-year contract through June 2028. The deal was finalized on Tuesday after weeks of negotiations between the clubs, according to transfer specialists Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio.
Medical examinations are scheduled for Wednesday in Milan, where the 31-year-old Spain international will become the Rossoneri's third summer signing. Morata's departure from Atlético concludes a three-year spell that saw him score 44 goals in 130 appearances, though he frequently faced competition for starting roles under Diego Simeone.
The move addresses Milan's urgent need for a proven center-forward following Olivier Giroud's departure to LAFC. For Morata, it offers a fresh challenge as first-choice striker in a new league after spending 11 of his last 12 seasons in Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A with Juventus. His €15m transfer fee represents significant value for a player who scored 21 goals last season and netted twice for Spain at Euro 2024.
Atlético reportedly agreed to the reduced fee due to Morata's desire for regular playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup cycle. Milan sporting director Giorgio Furlani highlighted the striker's experience in multiple leagues and Champions League pedigree as key factors in the pursuit. The deal includes no buy-back clause, severing Morata's ties with Atlético after 189 total appearances across two separate stints.
