Marseille sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United in €27m deal
Marseille have completed the permanent signing of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United for a reported €27m fee, the clubs confirmed on Wednesday. The 22-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract with the Ligue 1 side after spending last season on loan at La Liga club Getafe.
Greenwood's move ends a 14-year association with United, where he scored 35 goals in 129 appearances before being suspended in January 2022 following legal allegations that were later dropped. The England international rebuilt his career during a productive loan spell at Getafe last season, contributing 10 goals and six assists across 36 appearances.
The deal provides United with significant financial fair play relief while allowing Marseille to acquire a proven attacking talent as they prepare for Champions League football. Manager Roberto De Zerbi reportedly identified Greenwood as a key target to strengthen his frontline following his appointment last month.
United confirmed in a statement that both clubs had 'mutually agreed to facilitate the transfer' following extensive discussions. Greenwood becomes Marseille's third major summer signing after midfielder Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and defender Lilian Brassier.
