Moises Caicedo rules out Real Madrid move amid Chelsea commitment
Real Madrid’s search for midfield reinforcements has hit an early obstacle with Moises Caicedo declaring his commitment to Chelsea. The Ecuador international, linked with Los Blancos earlier this season, told reporters on Monday that he intends to stay at Stamford Bridge long-term, stating: “I have a contract with Chelsea and I want to be a legend there, God willing.”
Spanish outlet Diario AS reports the 22-year-old’s comments come amid tentative interest from Madrid, who are exploring options to refresh their midfield following Toni Kroos’ retirement and Luka Modric’s expected departure in 2025. Caicedo had previously expressed admiration for Real Madrid before joining Chelsea in a £115m move from Brighton in 2023.
However, sources close to the La Liga club indicate Caicedo was never considered a primary target due to his stylistic similarities with Aurelien Tchouameni. The French midfielder has established himself as a key figure under Carlo Ancelotti this season, reducing the urgency for another defensive-minded player in Madrid’s recruitment plans.
Chelsea remain adamant about retaining their record signing, with club officials reportedly dismissing any notion of summer negotiations. Caicedo’s public commitment aligns with the Blues’ stance, though his first season in West London has been mixed – showing flashes of his Premier League-leading tackling ability while adapting to multiple midfield partners.
Real Madrid’s focus now shifts to alternative targets, including Paris Saint-Germain’s Vitinha and emerging talents like AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit. The Spanish giants are prioritizing technical profiles that complement existing midfielders Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde as they transition from their veteran core.
