Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has undergone a second operation following a serious ankle injury sustained in the Club World Cup last year, the club confirmed on Monday.
Musiala initially suffered a fractured fibula and ankle dislocation during a quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain in February 2023. He recently experienced renewed discomfort following Germany’s elimination from the World Cup by Paraguay, prompting the additional surgical procedure.
Bayern Munich stated that the operation was a standard part of the medical protocol established after the initial injury. According to German publication Bild, the surgery involved the removal of a metal plate inserted during the first operation.
The Bundesliga champions anticipate that Musiala will be able to participate in pre-season training according to a specific plan, ensuring his availability for the start of the domestic campaign. Bayern Munich is scheduled to begin their Bundesliga season against Stuttgart on August 28th.
Musiala, 21, has become a key player for both Bayern Munich and the German national team since breaking into the first team. He has demonstrated exceptional dribbling skills and a knack for scoring important goals. The injury disrupted his momentum, but this latest procedure aims to ensure a full recovery and a return to peak form. The club will be hoping he can recapture his previous form as they look to defend their Bundesliga title and compete in the Champions League.
This second operation, while a setback, appears to be a preventative measure to ensure Musiala’s long-term fitness. The successful removal of the metal plate and the club’s confidence in his pre-season preparation suggest a positive outlook for the young midfielder’s future.
