Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson following the club’s successful fight to avoid relegation from the Premier League, according to journalist Ben Jacobs. The move will see Robertson join Spurs on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expired.
Liverpool confirmed last month that Robertson would depart Anfield at the end of the current season, with the club having already secured Milos Kerkez as a long-term replacement. Robertson had been linked with a move to Tottenham during the winter transfer window, but it was mutually agreed he would remain with Liverpool until the end of the campaign.
Tottenham’s Premier League status was a key factor in the transfer, as relegation to the Championship would have automatically cancelled the agreement. Their 1-0 victory over Everton on the final day of the 2025/26 season secured their top-flight status and paved the way for the deal to be completed. Jacobs confirmed on social media that the transfer is now expected to go through.
Spurs had previously reached an ‘agreement in principle’ to sign Marcos Senesi from AFC Bournemouth, and securing their Premier League place removes a significant obstacle to that deal also being finalized in the coming weeks. Robertson was one of several high-profile players to bid farewell to their clubs at the end of the season, alongside Mohamed Salah and Pep Guardiola.
In his final words as a Liverpool player, Robertson praised Guardiola’s impact on the Premier League and also paid tribute to Everton’s Seamus Coleman, acknowledging Coleman as a benchmark for full-backs during his own development. Robertson noted Coleman was a “better bargain” than himself, reflecting on his own transfer fee.
The arrival of Robertson will bolster Tottenham’s defensive options as they look to build on their Premier League survival and push for a higher finish next season. His experience and quality will be a valuable asset for the club.
