Liverpool are monitoring Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and are in talks regarding a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to reports. The potential business comes amid speculation surrounding the future of current Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who is reportedly ‘intrigued’ by a potential transfer to Juventus.
Alisson, considered one of the world’s best in his position, recently had his contract extended at Anfield, but Juventus have offered the Brazilian a two-year deal with an option for a further year, according to TEAMtalk’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey. Liverpool are therefore assessing potential replacements, with Manchester City’s James Trafford and Giorgi Mamardashvili previously mentioned as possible options, though sources suggest the club aren’t fully convinced by the latter.
This has led Liverpool to explore other goalkeeping options, including the 33-year-old Martinez, a 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery described Martinez as “the best goalkeeper in the world” in September 2025, as reported by BBC Sport. Liverpool are also said to be admirers of Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Chevalier, but Martinez remains a key target.
Alongside the goalkeeping situation, Liverpool are also actively pursuing Ederson from Atalanta. The Serie A club are seeking €50million (£43.2m, $59m) for the Brazilian defensive midfielder. While Atletico Madrid were previously interested, they have reportedly shifted their focus to Wolves’ Joao Gomes, opening the door for Liverpool to advance in negotiations. Ederson’s agents have reportedly held talks with Liverpool, as well as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United, within the last ten days.
Further complicating matters for Liverpool, they now face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon. Gordon is expected to be available for a summer transfer in 2026, and while Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal have all shown interest, PSG have recently entered the race, with sources indicating Gordon would be open to a move abroad. The addition of Ederson would bolster Liverpool’s midfield options, while Martinez would provide a high-quality replacement should Alisson depart. Securing Gordon would add further attacking depth to Arne Slot’s squad.
