Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is reportedly seeking guarantees from club owner John Elkann regarding his future role and influence at the club, particularly concerning transfer dealings. According to reports in Tuttosport, Spalletti wants assurances he won’t face interference with his staff and daily team management, and crucially, that he will be involved in every step of the transfer market process.
The club has attempted to reassure Spalletti by informing him of progress in negotiations for Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, with talks reportedly entering a crucial phase. Beyond Alisson, Spalletti is awaiting updates on all other potential incomings and outgoings. He has already indicated certain players are considered essential, praising Manuel Locatelli and Weston McKennie for their character, and highlighting the potential of Kenan Yildiz.
Spalletti’s concerns stem from perceived issues with squad depth and the impact of substitutes during recent matches, notably the Derby della Mole against Torino. He expressed disappointment with the performances of players like Teun Koopmeiners, Valon Zhegrova, Fabio Miretti, Emil Holm, and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia after making changes to the starting lineup. This disparity between the first-choice eleven and the reserves has reportedly caused frustration for the manager.
Juventus are also considering potential player sales to fund further recruitment, with Bremer and Andrea Cambiaso identified as players who could be sacrificed for the right offer. The club is seeking a new figure to work alongside Spalletti on transfers, potentially Matteo Tognozzi, though this proposal isn’t universally supported within the board. Elkann is expected to address these concerns and clarify Spalletti’s role, while also discussing the future direction of the club with CEO Giuseppe Comolli. Comolli has acknowledged the need for improvement and expressed a commitment to building a strong team with Spalletti, but a compromise is being sought to give the manager greater control over player recruitment.
