Khéphren Thuram’s participation in Juventus’s pre-season has been thrown into doubt following the discovery of a knee injury during the club’s medical checks, according to reports from TuttoSport. The midfielder arrived at the training ground with a noticeable bandage on his right knee, prompting concern among supporters and club staff.
Initial assessments suggest Thuram is suffering from a femoro-patellar syndrome, an issue that troubled him towards the end of last season. As a result, he returned to training earlier than the rest of the squad on Thursday to begin a rehabilitation program. While Juventus are keen to avoid alarm, the injury is considered significant enough to require careful management, and he has been training separately from the group.
It is currently unlikely that Thuram will feature in Juventus’s upcoming friendly against Basel. The club is prioritizing a cautious approach to his recovery, with ice and bandages being the initial treatment. Injections are a possibility if his response to the initial treatment is not sufficient. The situation is particularly sensitive given that Thuram has been identified as a potential player to be sold as Juventus seek to address their financial situation following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
The financial pressures at Juventus mean the club are looking to generate funds through player sales. Thuram was considered a viable option to raise capital, and his injury could alter those plans. Should his condition prove more serious than initially feared, the club’s transfer strategy for the midfield could be drastically changed, potentially impacting their pursuit of free agents Franck Kessie and Leon Goretzka.
Juventus manager Massimiliano Spalletti is also facing challenges in building his tactical identity with a limited number of first-team players currently available. Andrea Cambiaso and Lloyd Kelly are among the few senior players fit, with Kenan Yildiz expected to return to training next week, though his own fitness will also need to be assessed. The injury to Thuram further complicates matters as Spalletti attempts to prepare for the start of the Serie A season.
