FC Schalke 04 have confirmed that winger Mika Wallentowitz has signed a contract extension with the club, committing his future to the Bundesliga side until 2030.
The 18-year-old’s new deal comes after a breakthrough season for the Royal Blues, during which he made 13 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga.
Wallentowitz made his professional debut in October and registered one assist as Schalke secured promotion back to the Bundesliga. Though he hasn’t featured prominently in the first team recently, the club clearly views him as a significant part of their future plans.
“Mika’s development is one of the most inspiring stories of the season,” said Youri Mulder, Schalke’s director of professional football, in a club statement. “His intensity, speed, and versatility are key qualities for our style of football.”
Mulder also emphasized the club’s commitment to nurturing Wallentowitz’s potential, adding, “Mika is a very young player who knows exactly what he still needs to work on. We will remain in close contact with him to find the best path for his development together.”
The extension represents a positive step for Schalke as they rebuild in the Bundesliga, securing a promising young talent amidst a period of transition. Wallentowitz will likely be integrated further into the first-team squad as he continues to develop under the club’s guidance.
Wallentowitz progressed through Schalke’s youth academy and has represented Germany at youth international level, demonstrating his potential on a broader stage. The long-term nature of the contract suggests Schalke are prepared to be patient with his development and believe he can become a key player for the club in the years to come.
