Barcelona are actively planning for the summer transfer window, with replacing Robert Lewandowski their immediate priority following the confirmation of his departure at the end of the season. The club is seeking a new centre-forward, and sporting director Deco has indicated they are considering multiple options.
Deco addressed the situation during the club’s end-of-season dinner on Wednesday, acknowledging the difficulty of replacing Lewandowski, who has been a prolific goalscorer for Barcelona in recent years. He noted that Ferran Torres has adapted to the number nine role, but emphasized the need to strengthen the team ahead of the next campaign, according to MD.
Julian Alvarez and Joao Pedro have emerged as the primary targets in Barcelona’s search for a new striker. Deco stated that the club is not ruling out any potential candidates, emphasizing a thorough internal evaluation process. He stressed the importance of finding a suitable replacement for Lewandowski, while also acknowledging the complexities of the transfer market.
Currently, Joao Pedro is considered the more likely of the two to join Barcelona. The Chelsea forward is reportedly eager to secure a move to the Catalan club, however, Chelsea are reportedly reluctant to sell. The arrival of Xabi Alonso as the new Real Madrid head coach may further complicate Barcelona’s pursuit of Pedro, given the historical rivalry between the two clubs.
Deco remained cautious about predicting the outcome of the transfer search, stating that the club will continue to work diligently to identify and secure the best possible option. The situation remains fluid, and it is unclear whether Deco will be able to finalize a deal for either Alvarez or Pedro.
