Federico Chiesa has publicly stated his desire to rejoin Juventus, following his departure from the club last summer. In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the Liverpool winger said he “would never have left” Turin and that Juventus “is always in my heart.”
Chiesa’s move to Liverpool came after a period of uncertainty at Juventus, where he was a key player under previous management. He initially joined Juventus on loan from Fiorentina in 2020, before making the move permanent in 2022. During his time in Turin, he became a fan favorite, contributing significantly to their attack and winning a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana. However, the arrival of new management at Juventus led to a change in plans, and he ultimately moved to Anfield.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is known to be a strong admirer of Chiesa, having previously compared him to Jannik Sinner, the Italian tennis star. While managing the Italian national team, Spalletti consistently deployed Chiesa as a starter, recognizing his versatility as a winger or a false nine. He praised Chiesa’s ability to contribute in multiple roles, a quality that would be valuable to Juventus.
Negotiations between Liverpool and Juventus regarding a potential transfer in January ultimately stalled over the terms of the deal. Liverpool reportedly sought a permanent transfer fee, while Juventus were only willing to offer a loan with an option to buy. This led to Juventus pursuing other options, eventually signing Boga. Currently, the club’s priority is to strengthen their goalkeeping and striker positions, and the wide positions are considered adequately staffed. However, a departure of Zhegrova could open a space for Chiesa’s return. Despite the current obstacles, Chiesa remains hopeful of a move back to Turin.
