Milan’s recent organizational overhaul has led to the club missing out on several potential signings, including Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to a report from Italian journalist sources. Initial discussions with Goretzka took place in January, when Milan was performing strongly in Serie A and believed to have addressed attacking concerns with the arrival of Füllkrug.
At that time, sporting director Tare had begun preliminary talks with the German international, whose contract with Bayern was nearing its expiration. Goretzka reportedly gave a positive response to Milan’s proposal, envisioning a midfield partnership with Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot. However, the subsequent turmoil at the club, triggered by owner Gerry Cardinale’s decision to reset the organization following consecutive disappointing seasons, has brought all transfer activity to a standstill.
Eleven days after the restructuring, key positions within the club remain unfilled, creating a significant delay in technical and sporting planning. This lack of leadership has effectively frozen ongoing transfer discussions, including the pursuit of Goretzka. The report highlights the difficulty in securing commitments from players when the club lacks a clear direction or a designated negotiator.
The situation extends beyond Goretzka, with defender Gila, previously identified as a key target through Tare’s connections, now linked with a move to Napoli, managed by former Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri. Similarly, Juventus is reportedly interested in Kim, another defensive target for Milan. Forward Alexander Sorloth, who Milan identified as a potential solution to their attacking struggles, is also now attracting attention from Juventus. The lack of a defined project and active leadership at Milan is prompting players to explore opportunities elsewhere, benefiting rival clubs like Juventus and Napoli.
The current situation demonstrates the impact of instability on a club’s ability to compete in the transfer market, as potential signings seek clarity and assurance before committing to a move.
