Tottenham Hotspur have secured the signing of Andy Robertson from Liverpool on a free transfer, the club confirmed. The 32-year-old left-back joins after his contract with Liverpool expired, bolstering Roberto De Zerbi’s squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Robertson arrives at Tottenham with a wealth of experience, having been a key player for Liverpool for several years. He was a consistent performer for the Merseyside club, known for his energetic runs, accurate crossing, and defensive solidity. While he saw reduced playing time in the latter stages of his Liverpool career, his pedigree remains highly regarded.
De Zerbi expressed his delight at the signing, stating he has admired Robertson for a number of years and believes he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership, and mentality to the team. The manager highlighted Robertson’s proven track record as a winner at the highest level and his potential to be a significant influence both on and off the pitch.
The move provides Tottenham with a reliable option at left-back, offering competition for Destiny Udogie. Following a season where they narrowly avoided relegation, strengthening the defence is a clear priority for De Zerbi. Robertson’s arrival addresses this need and adds a seasoned professional to the Spurs lineup.
In addition to the incoming transfer, Tottenham have released Yves Bissouma, who departs the club after four years and 111 appearances, though only 11 came in his final season. The club are also pursuing further defensive reinforcements, having agreed a deal to sign Marcos Senesi as a free agent from Bournemouth and are currently bidding for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Attacking upgrades, particularly Manchester City winger Savinho, are also being targeted, alongside a potential new goalkeeper. A decision regarding the future of loanee Joao Palhinha is also pending.
This marks a significant step in Tottenham’s rebuilding process under De Zerbi, as they aim to establish themselves as a competitive force in the Premier League.
