Tottenham Hotspur have intensified their interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, according to TEAMtalk, as they reassess options following difficulties in securing their primary target, Sandro Tonali. While Crystal Palace maintain they have not received any formal bids, interest in the England international is growing.
Liverpool are also strongly linked with Wharton, having held discussions with his representatives in recent weeks, and Manchester United retain a long-standing interest in the former Blackburn Rovers player. However, sources indicate that Tottenham are now making a significant push to sign the 21-year-old.
Spurs are looking to bolster their midfield options following the departure of Yves Bissouma and are reportedly open to adding up to three new players in that position before the transfer window closes. Joao Palhinha, currently on loan from Fulham, is also under consideration, though his future remains uncertain with talks ongoing with Sporting CP and other clubs.
Enquiries have also been made regarding Tonali of Newcastle United and Mateus Fernandes of West Ham United, but Tottenham acknowledge that securing either player would be challenging. Newcastle are reportedly demanding over £100 million for Tonali, while Fernandes is also a target for Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is believed to be a keen admirer of Wharton, viewing his technical ability, composure, and playmaking skills as a good fit for his tactical approach. The club are confident they have a realistic chance of completing a deal, provided Crystal Palace are willing to negotiate.
Crystal Palace, however, have consistently stated they are under no pressure to sell and have not yet engaged in discussions with any potential suitors. They are expected to demand a substantial fee if they do consider offers, particularly given the rising valuations of English talent influenced by recent transfers such as Elliot Anderson’s potential move to Manchester City. This escalating market is causing concern for clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United, who are wary of overpaying for midfield reinforcements. Despite these challenges, Tottenham are preparing to test Palace’s resolve in the coming weeks.
