Aberdeen have completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Marius Müller from German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, the Scottish Premiership club confirmed on Friday. The 33-year-old moves to Pittodrie after two seasons with the Wolves, where he primarily served as backup to Kamil Grabara. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed.
Müller began his career with 1.FC Kaiserslautern before a spell at Schalke 04, eventually joining Wolfsburg in the summer of 2024. He made eight competitive appearances for the Autostadt club across all competitions, providing experienced cover in the goalkeeping department. Despite his limited game time, Wolfsburg sporting director Pirmin Schwegler praised Müller’s commitment to the club.
“Marius has fully identified with VfL Wolfsburg from day one,” Schwegler said in a club statement. “We openly discussed his current sporting prospects and jointly concluded that the move to Aberdeen is the right step for both sides. We thank Marius for his commitment in the VfL jersey and wish him all the best for his future, both professionally and personally.”
The transfer represents a first move abroad for Müller, who has spent his entire professional career in Germany. Aberdeen manager Jimmy Theodosiou will be hoping Müller can provide strong competition for the starting goalkeeping position and bring stability to the backline. The Dons finished tenth in the Scottish Premiership last season and will be aiming for a more competitive campaign in the upcoming term.
Müller’s arrival at Aberdeen addresses a need for depth in the goalkeeping ranks, offering a reliable option alongside existing keepers. This move could be a crucial step in Aberdeen’s rebuilding process as they look to climb the Scottish Premiership table.
