Inter Milan have confirmed the departures of four senior players – Francesco Acerbi, Yann Sommer, Matteo Darmian, and Stefan de Vrij – at the end of their contracts, signalling a potential shift in the squad following a Serie A title win.
The club announced the exits on Tuesday, bringing to a close the chapters of several key figures in recent Inter history. Acerbi, 38, departs after joining permanently in 2023 following a successful loan spell from Lazio. The Italian defender featured in 26 matches across all competitions this season, contributing to a trophy-laden period that included two Serie A titles in 2024 and 2026, as well as four other trophies.
Sommer, 37, arrived at Inter in 2023 and quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper. The Switzerland international leaves with four trophies and a positive record between the posts. Darmian, 36, also exits the club after six seasons, having won nine trophies during his time at the San Siro and previously being a regular starter in the team.
De Vrij, 34, joined Inter in 2018 and became a mainstay in the defence, playing a significant role in the team’s successes. The Netherlands centre-back also departs with nine trophies, including the two recent Serie A titles. Despite their domestic dominance, this Inter generation were unable to lift the Champions League trophy, losing in the finals in 2023 and 2025.
These departures suggest Inter are preparing for a period of squad renewal, potentially bringing in younger players to replace these experienced figures. The changes could also allow manager Simone Inzaghi to reshape the team’s tactical approach ahead of next season’s challenges.
