Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has indicated that defender Denzel Dumfries is nearing a move to Real Madrid, while also addressing interest in Atalanta’s Fabio Palestra. Speaking at the Serie A calendar draw event, Marotta confirmed preliminary discussions regarding Dumfries’ potential departure, suggesting a transfer is becoming increasingly likely.
Marotta stated that while Dumfries’ exit would create a vacancy in a similar position, Inter are only in the preliminary stages of considering a move for Palestra, despite widespread speculation linking the young full-back with a switch to the Nerazzurri. He acknowledged Palestra’s rising profile, noting the player is “on everyone’s lips” after an excellent season on loan at Cagliari, but cautioned against prematurely linking him with Inter.
Palestra, currently contracted to Atalanta, has attracted attention from several top European clubs following a successful campaign in Sardinia. Marotta emphasized Inter’s status as a major international club, obligated to compete at the highest level in all competitions, and confirmed the club will continue to seek opportunities to strengthen its squad. He did not elaborate on the potential financial terms of either deal.
Beyond potential incomings and outgoings, Marotta also provided updates on existing Inter players. He confirmed the club has exercised its buyback clause for goalkeeper Filip Stankovic, following a strong season, though his long-term future remains under evaluation. Pepo Martinez will remain as Inter’s goalkeeper, though the starting position will be determined by the coach.
Furthermore, Inter are set to announce a contract extension for assistant coach Cristian Chivu, whose deal was already set to run until 2027. Marotta stated an agreement has been reached and the extension will be formalized in the coming days, expressing mutual satisfaction with the outcome. Chivu played a key role in Inter’s Serie A and Coppa Italia triumph during his first season with the club.
