Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaïfi has already turned his attention to future success following the club’s Champions League final victory over Borussia Dortmund, stating that he believes 2026 will be even better than their recent back-to-back European triumphs. According to reports following the match, al-Khelaïfi expressed his delight at securing a second consecutive Champions League title, and the second in the club’s history, emphasizing the years of work that culminated in the achievement.
Al-Khelaïfi also appealed for calm amongst PSG supporters, urging them to avoid any potential disturbances as celebrations continue in Paris. He specifically requested fans to behave responsibly to ensure the possibility of a parade through the city on Sunday, suggesting a planned gathering at the Champ de Mars at 2:00 PM local time. This comes after over 400 arrests were made during initial celebrations following the final whistle.
The victory has sparked celebrations across France, with scenes of joy reported in cities like Lorient and amongst prominent figures like singer Aya Nakamura. The win also marks a significant moment for players like Ousmane Dembélé, who has been described as ‘unstoppable’ in the Champions League this season. Dembélé recently explained his early substitution in the second leg against Arsenal was due to fatigue.
Despite the elation, there have been reminders of past tragedies, with references made to the 2022 death of Federico Aramburu, and comparisons drawn to the handling of other cases involving political violence. However, the focus remains firmly on the sporting achievement and the future direction of the club. Al-Khelaïfi’s comments suggest a continued ambition to build on this success, with the 2026 Champions League campaign already being viewed as a key target. The club has already made history as the first to win back-to-back Champions League titles, and the president is determined to add further chapters to their story.
