Juventus have been offered the opportunity to sign Real Madrid defender David Alaba, according to reports emerging from Italy. The initial approach between Alaba’s agent, Pini Zahavi, and Juventus officials has been described as positive, with further discussions planned.
This development comes as a potential move for Robert Lewandowski to Serie A appears increasingly unlikely. Both AC Milan and Juventus had expressed interest in the Polish striker, but Milan are hesitant to add another player over the age of 30 to their squad, while Juventus are prioritizing resolving the future of Dusan Vlahovic before making any further attacking additions. Lewandowski himself is reportedly open to a contract renewal with Barcelona, albeit on reduced terms compared to his current €16 million annual salary.
Alaba, an Austrian international with a decorated career, has struggled with fitness issues during his three seasons at Real Madrid, making just 14 appearances across all competitions this season. Prior to his move to Spain, he enjoyed twelve successful years with Bayern Munich, winning ten Bundesliga titles and four Champions League trophies. His versatility is a key asset, capable of playing as a central defender, left-back, or even in midfield.
While Juventus recognize Alaba’s pedigree, they are carefully considering the potential risks associated with his recent injury record. The club are weighing up the financial implications of the transfer, including wages and potential commission fees. Alaba is reportedly willing to accept a lower salary than he currently earns at Real Madrid, and is keen to find a club where he can rediscover his form. He is also attracting interest from clubs in England, including Manchester United, as well as teams in the MLS and Saudi Pro League. Alaba’s contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season, making him a free agent in the summer.
