Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has stated his intention to retain Enzo Fernandez at the club this summer, despite ongoing speculation linking the Argentinian midfielder with a move to Real Madrid. Reports had suggested Chelsea could be willing to part with Fernandez for a fee of €140 million, and it was understood the player himself was keen on a transfer to the Spanish capital. However, following talks with Fernandez after the World Cup, Alonso confirmed to reporters on Monday that he wants the 25-year-old to remain a Chelsea player, though he remained tight-lipped on the specifics of their conversation.
Elsewhere, Chelsea are progressing with contract extension talks with academy winger Sol Gordon, with interest mounting from several other Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Bournemouth, and Everton, as well as European side PSV Eindhoven. The 18-year-old, who scored 10 goals in 27 U18 Premier League games last season, currently has a contract expiring in 2027, and the club are reportedly accelerating discussions over a new deal.
Italian side AS Roma have submitted a €5 million loan offer for Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho, with an option to make the deal permanent for €35 million next summer. Chelsea and Garnacho have reportedly agreed to pursue a permanent sale, and Garnacho has not yet joined the Blues for pre-season training as he assesses his options. The loan offer includes a clause for an automatic permanent transfer should certain conditions be met.
The Blues’ pursuit of Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers continues, though the club faces a challenge in negotiating a fee with Villa, who are demanding a significant sum. Arsenal are also reportedly interested in Rogers, adding further competition for his signature. In defensive news, Inter Milan have withdrawn from the race to sign Trevoh Chalobah, deeming Chelsea’s €41 million asking price too high, with Serie A side Como also yet to meet the valuation.
New signing Marco Palestra has become the subject of controversy, with Inter chairman Giuseppe Marotta claiming the player reneged on an agreement to join Inter, a claim refuted by Palestra’s agent. Finally, Chelsea’s deal for Rayo Vallecano defender Pep Chavarria is reportedly at risk of collapsing, as the Spanish club are holding firm on a €25 million asking price, despite initial indications that €15 million would be sufficient.
