Chelsea are preparing for the departure of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen this summer after the player formally requested to leave, according to TEAMtalk. The 24-year-old Denmark international joined the Blues from Villarreal in July 2024 for a reported £20.7million but has become frustrated with limited playing time as understudy to Robert Sanchez.
Jorgensen reportedly held discussions with the Chelsea hierarchy to express his desire for a fresh challenge after spending much of the 2025-26 season on the bench. New manager Xabi Alonso is understood to be receptive to a sale, provided the terms are favourable, and the club does not intend to directly replace him. Highly-rated Belgian prospect Mike Penders, currently on loan at Strasbourg, is expected to be promoted to the first-team squad.
Interest in Jorgensen surfaced during the January transfer window, with Besiktas, Genoa, and Porto all expressing strong interest. Relegated Premier League side West Ham also made enquiries, viewing the goalkeeper as a potential starter. Chelsea blocked any potential move in January to maintain squad depth, but the situation has changed with the conclusion of the season.
The 6ft 5in Jorgensen has demonstrated promise in limited appearances for Chelsea, but has been unable to consistently displace Sanchez in the starting lineup. A move would allow him to regain a regular starting role, previously enjoyed at Villarreal, and potentially enhance his chances of selection for the Denmark national team. Several Premier League clubs are expected to enter the race for his signature, attracted by his reasonable valuation and modern goalkeeping attributes.
Besiktas remain particularly interested in Jorgensen, considering him a defensive priority, while Porto continue to hold strong interest. For Chelsea, selling Jorgensen will free up funds for squad reshaping under Alonso and provide an opportunity to integrate youth players. It remains to be seen whether Jorgensen will remain in the Premier League or move abroad, but his exit is now anticipated as one of the Blues’ first significant moves of the summer transfer window.
