Olympique de Marseille assistant coach Pancho Abardonado is reportedly considering leaving the club following a heated altercation with sporting coordinator Bob Tahri, according to L’Équipe. The incident occurred after Marseille’s final Ligue 1 match of the season, a victory over Stade Rennais that secured qualification for the Europa League.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from accusations leveled against Abardonado on social media, alleging he was leaking information to the press – a so-called ‘taupe’ within the club. Abardonado confronted Tahri, questioning why he was being publicly identified as the source of the leaks. Tahri repeatedly denied the claims, and the ensuing argument escalated, requiring intervention from others to separate the two men.
Since the incident, Abardonado has been contemplating his future at the club. A collective of Olympique de Marseille employees sent an email to the club’s management on Tuesday evening, criticizing Tahri’s behavior and highlighting the tension he creates within the organization. The email reportedly “denounces certain things that have been swept under the rug for too long” regarding Tahri. Tahri responded to the email, telling L’Équipe that he intends to pursue legal action, stating that his work and reputation would not be damaged without proof.
The club has reportedly been investigating the source of the leaks, with former player Medhi Benatia and his associates allegedly focusing on identifying ‘taupes’ and questioning the legitimacy of certain positions within the club. The identity of the alleged leaker remains unknown. This internal conflict comes at a time of transition for Marseille, as they prepare for another season in European competition and search for stability both on and off the pitch. Abardonado’s potential departure would represent another change within the coaching staff, potentially impacting team dynamics.
