Coventry City are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Aurèle Amenda for a reported €20 million. The 22-year-old has arrived in England to undergo a medical examination, according to Sky Germany and journalist Christopher Michel, with an official announcement expected on Thursday.
This transfer marks a significant investment for Coventry City as they prepare for their return to the Premier League after a 23-year absence. The Sky Blues earned promotion through the Championship play-off final in May, and manager Frank Lampard will be looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. Amenda represents a substantial addition, bringing Bundesliga experience to the newly promoted side.
Amenda progressed through the youth ranks at Eintracht Frankfurt, making his first-team debut in 2021. He became a regular fixture in the Frankfurt defense last season, making 24 appearances in the Bundesliga. The Switzerland international was also part of the Swiss squad for the recent World Cup, although he did not feature in any matches during the tournament.
Eintracht Frankfurt will be looking to reinvest the funds from Amenda’s sale into strengthening their own squad. The club finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season and will be aiming to challenge for European qualification in the upcoming campaign. Coventry City’s pursuit of Amenda signals their ambition to establish themselves as a competitive force in the Premier League, and the defender’s arrival is expected to bolster their defensive options significantly. The move provides Amenda with the opportunity to test himself in one of the world’s most competitive leagues and further develop his career.
