Rubén Amorim has begun his tenure as manager of AC Milan, addressing the squad at Milanello on Saturday as the Rossoneri officially commenced pre-season training. Gerry Cardinale, the owner of RedBird Capital and controlling shareholder of Milan, made a striking arrival by helicopter, observing the training session and later dining with the players.
Amorim briefly spoke to the team in the gym, stating he would defend them in any discussions with other players if they were proven correct, and expressed his pride at being appointed. The Portuguese manager’s arrival follows a period of significant change at the club, with Cardinale taking full control on May 25th, resulting in the departures of former CEO Furlani, manager Allegri, sporting director Tare, and technical director Moncada.
Cardinale’s presence was noted as a departure from previous years, with players appreciating the visit from the owner on the first day of training. He spent time with several players, including Gabbia and new signing Gila, and also spoke with Amorim. The American businessman’s commitment to the club is reportedly a high priority.
Gonçalo Ramos, recently linked with a move to Milan, was also in the city, viewing potential homes and visiting the club store. The Portuguese forward is on holiday following his participation in the World Cup, but expressed his eagerness to begin his Milan career.
The 26 players convened at Milanello for medical tests and the first training session, with Bennacer and Bondo absent as they are not part of the club’s plans. Several youth players were included in the squad. The first training session under Amorim will be open to fans this evening. This marks the official start of a new era for Milan under the leadership of Cardinale and Amorim.
