Ruben Amorim is already deep into analyzing the current AC Milan squad ahead of his official arrival on July 6th, according to reports. The newly appointed manager, alongside his staff and some Rossoneri directors, is meticulously reviewing the technical, tactical, and physical profiles of the 30 players currently under contract.
This assessment includes those who featured in the recently concluded season under Max Allegri, players returning from loan spells, and recent acquisitions like Alphadjo Cissé, a 2006-born attacking midfielder from Catanzaro, and Andrej Kostic, a 2007-born forward from Partizan Belgrade. The club finished fifth in Serie A last season, a result considered disappointing, and will participate in the Europa League next season.
Several departures are anticipated, with Füllkrug’s loan from West Ham not being made permanent. The future of Luka Modrić remains uncertain as his contract expires on June 30th; the Croatian international is considering retirement or a potential return to Real Madrid in a yet-to-be-defined role, though a continued spell with Milan is also possible, pending discussions with Amorim.
Two key players, Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot, present immediate challenges for Amorim. Both are attracting interest from other clubs – Chelsea for Maignan and Napoli for Rabiot – but are also valued by the new manager, particularly Maignan, who is considered vital in the dressing room and possesses excellent ball-playing ability. Amorim is expected to reassess the roles of players like Jashari and Nkunku within the squad.
Approximately half of the current 30-man squad are thought to be unlikely to feature prominently in Amorim’s plans. Players such as Tomori, Filippo Terracciano, Odogu, Fofana, Bennacer, Loftus-Cheek, Bondo, Estupinan, Gimenez, and Rafael Leão are currently considered to be in a precarious position, while Musah and Samuel Chukwueze may be given opportunities to impress. The manager is specifically looking for left-footed wingers who can operate from the right flank, potentially favoring Chukwueze. Milan aims to build a competitive squad of at least 25 players, including three goalkeepers, to effectively compete in both Serie A and the Europa League.
