Elliot Anderson’s permanent move from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle United has emerged as the most expensive transfer of the current window, with a reported fee of £116 million. The 23-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract with Manchester City, becoming the most expensive British player of all time.
The transfer was finalized while Anderson was on international duty with England at the World Cup, signaling City’s strong belief in his potential. He is viewed by some as a long-term successor to Rodri in the City midfield, indicating a strategic investment in the club’s future.
Meanwhile, Mateus Fernandes has completed a move from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £85 million. This marks the second consecutive summer that Fernandes has transferred following a team’s relegation, having previously established himself as a key player for a struggling West Ham side. West Ham secured a significant profit on the 21-year-old, who has only been at the club for a year, having signed from Southampton.
Barcelona have secured the services of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for £69.3 million. The 25-year-old forward, who scored 39 goals in three-and-a-half years with Newcastle, expressed his lifelong dream of playing for the Catalan giants, stating it was “the stuff I dreamed of as a child.”
AC Milan have made Goncalo Ramos their record signing, acquiring the 25-year-old striker from PSG for £63.8 million. Ramos scored 45 goals in three years with PSG and will reunite with compatriot Ruben Amorim at the San Siro. Liverpool have also been active, securing Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £55 million, with a potential further £5 million in add-ons, making him Rennes’ all-time most expensive sale.
Tottenham Hotspur have further bolstered their squad with the signing of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52 million, reuniting the Dutch defender with manager Roberto De Zerbi. Chelsea have also been busy, bringing in Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £47 million and Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP for £42.9 million. Bayern Munich have secured the services of Ismael Saibari from PSV for £42.8 million, while Rasmus Hojlund has made his permanent move to Napoli from Manchester United for £38.1 million after a successful loan spell. These moves demonstrate a significant outlay from top clubs as they prepare for the upcoming season.
