Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with Leicester City’s Jeremy Monga, according to journalist Nicolo Schira, as they look to finalise a deal for the 16-year-old winger. The move comes as the Gunners aim to reinforce their squad following a season where they were crowned Premier League champions but fell short in the Champions League final.
Monga, an England U19 international, has made 37 senior appearances for Leicester despite his young age, attracting interest from several clubs following the club’s relegation to League One. Transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey initially reported on May 28th that Arsenal were leading the chase for the player, described as a “generational talent”. While Newcastle United recently emerged as potential competition, Arsenal appear to be the frontrunners.
The potential arrival of Monga is part of a broader strategy by Arsenal to build for the future, alongside securing long-term contracts for existing key players. The club is also expected to complete a permanent deal for Piero Hincapie, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen on loan last summer with a reported £45 million option to buy, despite interest from Barcelona.
Former Crystal Palace forward Clinton Morrison has suggested Arsenal should prioritise signing a new striker and left winger this summer, adding further depth to Mikel Arteta’s squad. Morrison believes strengthening in these positions is crucial for maintaining their dominance and evolving as a team. The addition of Monga would provide a promising long-term option on the wing, while a new striker would offer competition for Gyokeres and Kai Havertz. The club are looking to continue to improve and build on their recent success, with Arsenal expected to be a dominant force in English football for years to come.
