Arsenal have added Como defender Jacobo Ramon to their list of potential defensive signings, according to BBC Sport. The Gunners are seeking cover for William Saliba, who is expected to be sidelined for an extended period due to a back injury initially sustained at the World Cup.
Reports last week indicated Arsenal were already pursuing defensive reinforcements following the exacerbation of Saliba’s injury. Their primary target remains Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa, however his €70million (£60m) valuation is proving a significant obstacle to a deal.
Ramon, a Spain Under-21 international, played a crucial role in Como’s successful 2025-26 Serie A campaign, helping the club secure UEFA Champions League qualification with a fourth-place finish. The 21-year-old has developed rapidly under the management of former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Despite Arsenal’s interest, BBC Sport reports that clauses within Ramon’s current contract could complicate any potential transfer. The defender is also attracting attention from fellow Premier League side Chelsea, as reported by The Athletic, who are themselves in the market for a new centre-back this summer.
Chelsea are reportedly nearing the signing of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, according to BBC Sport, and have already secured the services of Marco Palestra and Morgan Rogers under new manager Xabi Alonso. Arsenal have completed deals for Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier, and have made Piero Hincapie’s loan permanent.
Alongside defensive additions, Mikel Arteta is also aiming to strengthen Arsenal’s midfield options. BBC Sport claims the club is preparing an €82m (£70m) bid for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, though The Times reports that Newcastle are determined to retain their captain and will likely reject the offer.
