Arsenal are preparing to submit a second offer for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, though their initial bid of £55million was rejected by the Tyneside club, according to reports. The Gunners have communicated their interest through intermediaries, but Newcastle have indicated they are unwilling to sell their captain.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed Newcastle’s firm stance against losing Guimaraes, however, concerns are growing within the Newcastle camp regarding the club’s future direction after failing to qualify for European competition. The recent sale of Anthony Gordon and the impending transfer of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham for a reported £100million are contributing to these anxieties.
Chronicle Live report that Arsenal are poised to increase their offer to £65million, a figure that may prove more persuasive. The club are said to be encouraged by the possibility of reaching an agreement with Newcastle for the Brazilian, who has been a pivotal figure in Eddie Howe’s side since arriving from Lyon in 2022 for £40million.
Former Newcastle teammate Emil Krafth recently emphasized Guimaraes’ importance to the team, telling the BBC, “He’s the most important player in the team…He manages the game so well, both physically and technically.” Guimaraes has also been a key player for Brazil, providing four assists in four games at the recent World Cup.
The potential arrival of Guimaraes could impact the future of Martin Zubimendi at Arsenal, with the Spaniard’s form having dipped towards the end of last season. The 27-year-old reportedly struggled with the physicality of the Premier League, and Guimaraes’ arrival would likely see him relegated to a bench role. Arsenal have also reportedly agreed a deal with Besiktas for the permanent transfer of Leandro Trossard.
Guimaraes has two years remaining on his current contract with Newcastle.
