Arsenal are continuing their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez this summer, though the player currently prefers a move to Barcelona, according to TEAMtalk. Atletico Madrid have indicated a willingness to allow Alvarez to depart, but are actively working to avoid strengthening rivals Real Madrid or Barcelona with his transfer.
Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, has engaged in direct discussions with Alvarez, and the player is reportedly open to the possibility of joining the Premier League. This openness encourages Arsenal, who believe they could easily reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid should Alvarez change his preference. However, Alvarez’s camp has consistently communicated that Barcelona remains his priority destination, despite growing uncertainty surrounding the Catalan club’s financial ability to complete the deal.
Paris Saint-Germain have also entered the race, with manager Luis Enrique personally speaking to Alvarez as they search for a replacement for Goncalo Ramos, who is set to join AC Milan. While PSG are still in contact, they are simultaneously exploring alternative centre-forward options, including Bradley Barcola, though his situation is not directly linked to Alvarez’s.
Real Madrid previously made an offer for Alvarez, but the player has shown no inclination to join their squad. This stance has reinforced Atletico’s preference for selling to Arsenal, if a sale becomes necessary. Barcelona have currently tabled an offer exceeding €100 million (£85.3m, $114.3m) for Alvarez, but club president Joan Laporta has stated the offer’s validity is not indefinite, increasing the pressure on the player to make a decision.
Alongside their interest in Alvarez, Arsenal are also prioritizing strengthening the left side of their attack, with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as their primary target. They are also monitoring Barcola’s situation at PSG, but a move for the French international is not yet certain. The situation remains fluid, with Arsenal poised to capitalize should Alvarez reconsider his preferred destination.
