Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, with a potential transfer fee of £60million being discussed, however, concerns have been raised about the move potentially hindering the player’s development. The 18-year-old has become a key figure for Lille, establishing himself as a regular starter in central midfield despite his young age.
Bouaddi is currently with the Morocco national team at the World Cup, having chosen to represent them over France. He has started both of Morocco’s group stage matches, contributing to a 1-1 draw against Brazil and a 1-0 victory over Scotland. His performances have attracted attention from several top European clubs, including Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid, all vying for his signature.
The valuation of £60million was placed on Bouaddi by Lille prior to the start of the World Cup, reflecting his growing reputation and potential. Reports on Friday suggested Arsenal could be involved in a triple transfer deal, though details remain scarce. Former Manchester United right-back Paul Parker has cautioned Arsenal against signing Bouaddi, drawing parallels to the unsuccessful transfer of Sofyan Amrabat to Old Trafford.
Parker expressed concerns that Bouaddi might not thrive in Mikel Arteta’s system, suggesting that the player’s current profile doesn’t necessarily align with the qualities Arsenal seek. He highlighted the risk of overhyping players based on limited World Cup performances, referencing Amrabat's move to Manchester United after a strong showing in the previous World Cup, where he ultimately failed to live up to expectations. Parker emphasized the importance of consistency and sustained performance, qualities that are not always guaranteed in young players. The pundit believes Arsenal should be cautious about potentially overspending on a player whose form may not translate to the Premier League.
Arsenal are also reportedly making progress in other transfer dealings, with Andrea Berta, the club’s sporting director, having impressed an £80million valued star with his transfer pitch. Meanwhile, Manchester United are said to be increasingly confident of completing a significant signing, despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
