Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, with the Spain international’s future at the Camp Nou increasingly uncertain. According to TEAMtalk, the Gunners are among a number of clubs across Europe, including Chelsea and Aston Villa, expressing interest in the 26-year-old.
Torres enjoyed a productive season with Barcelona, registering 21 goals and three assists in all competitions, establishing himself as a reliable player for manager Hansi Flick. However, Barcelona are planning an ambitious summer transfer window, potentially involving multiple high-profile signings, which could impact Torres’s role within the squad.
Sources indicate Torres has become frustrated by reports suggesting he could be used as a makeweight in a deal to bring Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez to Barcelona. While Flick is reportedly happy with Torres’ versatility and contributions, the club’s financial situation and pursuit of Alvarez, alongside targets like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon, may necessitate player sales.
Barcelona are reportedly prepared to spend upwards of €220 million (£191m, $257m) on attacking reinforcements, and Torres’s contract situation adds to the complexity. With only one year remaining on his current deal, Barcelona may be compelled to cash in this summer if an extension cannot be agreed. Torres is reportedly seeking assurances regarding his future importance at the club before committing to new terms.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is known to be a long-term admirer of Torres, having previously worked with him at Manchester City. Having initially targeted Alvarez, Torres is now being considered as a potential alternative. However, Arsenal face competition from Aston Villa, who are looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of another season in European competition, and Chelsea, who appreciate Torres’ versatility.
Interest extends beyond the Premier League, with Serie A side Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas, also expressing a strong interest. Fabregas has publicly praised Torres’ contributions to Barcelona, highlighting his goalscoring record and adaptability. Real Betis, Monaco and Ajax have also registered their interest in the player. Barcelona have yet to make a final decision on Torres’ future, which will largely depend on their success in securing their primary attacking targets.
