Arsenal are preparing an £80 million bid for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to TEAMtalk. The Gunners have made the Brazilian their priority target in midfield, moving ahead of interest in his Newcastle teammate Sandro Tonali.
Arsenal have been long-time admirers of Guimaraes and have received encouragement from the player’s representatives, suggesting he is not planning to extend his contract with Newcastle. The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal and could potentially double his salary by joining either Arsenal or Manchester City.
Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in 2022 and has become a key player for Eddie Howe’s side, contributing significantly to their recent success. However, with uncertainty surrounding the futures of several Newcastle players, and Guimaraes unwilling to commit to a new contract, his departure is becoming increasingly likely.
Manchester City were also considering a move for both Guimaraes and Tonali, but Tottenham Hotspur’s aggressive pursuit of Tonali, reportedly preparing a £100 million bid, has shifted City’s focus back towards Guimaraes. Both Arsenal and City previously considered signing Guimaraes before his move to Newcastle.
Newcastle are reluctant to sell Guimaraes and have not publicly placed a valuation on him, but privately believe any realistic fee would exceed Arsenal’s initial offer. The club is already dealing with speculation surrounding the futures of Tonali, Lewis Hall, and Tino Livramento.
Arsenal are also monitoring other midfield options, including Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, and West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, but Guimaraes is now their primary target. Manchester City remain in the picture, but Arsenal are currently preparing to make the first formal move.
